Bhetki fish (also known as barramundi or Asian sea bass) is a versatile and flavorful fish, perfect for grilling, baking, or pan-frying. Here’s a simple and tasty recipe to cook Bhetki fish:

(HOW TO COOK)

Pan-Fried Bhetki Fish

Ingredients:

  • 2 Bhetki fish fillets (skinless)
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala or fish masala (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves (for garnish)
  • 2 tbsp rice flour (or corn flour)
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour (optional)
  • 2 tbsp oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Fish:

    1. In a bowl, combine ginger-garlic paste, lemon juice, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala (if using), and salt. Mix well.

    • Apply the marinade to both sides of the Bhetki fish fillets. Let it marinate for at least 15-20 minutes. You can refrigerate it for about 30 minutes for more flavor.
  2. Prepare the Coating:

    In a separate shallow dish, mix rice flour and all-purpose flour (if using). This will give the fish a crispy exterior.

  3. Fry the Fish:

    Heat oil in a frying pan or skillet on medium heat.Once the oil is hot, lightly dust the marinated fish fillets with the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.Carefully place the fish fillets in the pan and cook on medium heat for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden and crispy. You can flip the fillets gently using a spatula to avoid breaking the fish.Garnish and Serve:

    Once cooked, transfer the fish to a plate and garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.Serve the pan-fried Bhetki fish with rice, roti, or a side salad.


Baked Bhetki Fish

If you prefer a healthier, less oily method, you can bake the Bhetki fish.

Ingredients:

  • 2 Bhetki fish fillets
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp mixed herbs (or Italian seasoning)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Lemon slices (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Prepare the Fish:

    Place the fish fillets on a baking tray lined with parchment paper or foil.Drizzle olive oil or melted butter over the fillets and sprinkle with lemon juice, garlic powder, onion powder, mixed herbs, salt, and pepper.

  3. Bake the Fish:

    Place the fish in the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes or until the fish is cooked through and easily flakes with a fork.
