Pomfret fish is a delicious and tender fish that can be cooked in various ways, such as grilling, frying, steaming, or preparing it in a curry. Here’s a simple and popular recipe to cook pomfret fish:
(HOW TO COOK)
Pan-Fried Pomfret Fish
Ingredients:
- 2 whole pomfret fish, cleaned and gutted
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon garam masala (optional)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Salt to taste
- 1 tablespoon rice flour (for crispy coating)
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour (optional, for extra crispiness)
- 2-3 tablespoons oil for frying
- Fresh coriander or mint leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Fish:Clean the pomfret fish thoroughly, remove the fins, and make a few slashes on both sides of the fish. This allows the marinade to penetrate better.
- Make the Marinade:In a small bowl, combine ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala (if using), lemon juice, and salt. Mix well to form a paste.
- Marinate the Fish:Rub the marinade onto the fish, ensuring it’s applied evenly on both sides and inside the slashes. Let it marinate for at least 15-30 minutes for the flavors to absorb. For more flavor, you can marinate it longer (even up to 2 hours) in the refrigerator.
- Coat the Fish:In a separate plate, mix rice flour and all-purpose flour. Lightly coat the marinated fish with this flour mixture. This will help make the fish crispy when fried.
- Heat the Pan:Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, gently place the marinated and coated fish in the pan.Fry the Fish:Fry the fish for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until it becomes golden and crispy. Be careful not to overcook, as pomfret is delicate and can dry out quickly.Serve:Once the fish is crispy and cooked through, remove it from the pan and place it on a paper towel to drain any excess oil. Garnish with fresh coriander or mint leaves, and serve hot with a side of rice or a salad.
Enjoy your crispy and flavorful pan-fried pomfret fish!
